Charter Street Cemetery Interment Research Project
The center is home to a research project that seeks to collect all available information available for each individual known to be interred in Charter Street Cemetery. This is a collaborative, ongoing process with the goal of developing a complete inventory of biographies and stones, in addition to a system of monitoring stone conditions and preservation efforts.
Charter Street Cemetery Stone Database
How To Use the Database
This database is a catalog of every stone visible within Charter Street Cemetery, whether Headstone or Footstone, cataloged by name (Last, First). Stones have been identified by inscription, earlier references and photographs, and, in some cases, proximity to other stones. This should not be considered a definitive list of burials within the cemetery, as for many decades, traditional stone markers were not used and many stones have not stood the test of time. In situations where biographical information differs between headstones and other records, this database defers to the headstone itself. When no inscription is visible or able to be determined, the stone is simply listed as ‘Unknown’. If burial records exist for interments within Charter Street, but no stone is present, they will be included in the ‘Unmarked Graves’ section. If new information becomes available, it will be reflected in the index.
